Tumunui is a Māori land trust managing 3,887 hectares of whenua south of Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty, originally part of the vast Rotomahana Parakairangi block before Crown subdivision in the late nineteenth century. Today it operates a diverse farming and forestry estate, with more than 3,000 descendant shareholders connected through Wāhiao Marae.

Guided by its vision — Kaitiaki o te whenua mai Tumunui Maunga ki Rotokākahi — the Trust takes an integrated approach to land management, adapting to climate change and evolving emissions policy through lower-emissions farming, sustainable forestry, environmental restoration and participation in the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme.

Tumunui is equally committed to building leadership within its own whānau, investing in future governors and creating pathways for younger generations to engage in governance and kaitiakitanga.
