As part of a series of hapū wānanga on mātauranga and Project Kāinga discussions, hapū members toured key points and sites of significance within the Ngāti Rāhiri and Ngāti Kawa boundaries.


In the last week of May 2024, hapū members gathered at Tou Rangatira in Waitangi to take part of a tour of the Ngāti Rāhiri and Ngāti Kawa rohe. This event was part of a series of hapū wānanga on mātauranga and to further Project Kāinga discussions. Oromahoe kaumātua Pop Taurua drove a bus of hapū members to key points and sites of significance within the Ngāti Rāhiri and Ngāti Kawa boundaries.
The bus tour was narrated by Ngāti Kawa, and supported by Esme Sherwin. They discussed themes of whakapapa, tūpuna, pā sites, mahinga kai, kāinga, hapū presence in the bay/on the islands, battles, economic cycles and movement, land tenure and opportunities, economic, social and environmental aspirations for the future, areas for hapū development, leadership, hapū relationships/ whanaungatanga, climate change and planning.
