Rotokakahi 4.HEIC

17-18 June 2023

Project Kāinga held a Climate Adaptation hui amongst Kāinga leaders, rangatahi and scientists from around the motu in Rotorua on 17-18 June. We had hapū members from Waitangi/Oromahoe, Karetu, Tautoro, Rereatukahia, Opeke, and Tumunui Land Trust attend. Rangatahi from Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Whātua held their own youth forum as part of our next generation capacity development focus, learning and discussing the challenges of climate change, including what adaptation is and can be within kāinga and marae, brainstorming ideas for adaptation as a precursor to then creating a kāinga climate adaptation poster.  The hui was also an important milestone in the progression of each community’s Kāinga plans with a particular focus on freshwater health and monitoring, community leadership and capacity and data management.
