Te Rereatukāhia is a small marae community in the Bay of Plenty who descend from a once-populous kin group named Ngāi Tamawhariua. In 1868 the Crown forcibly relocated them off their 60,000ha estate and into a 30ha reservation where they have remained ever since. This very impoverished kainga has no other assets. and is ground zero for climate change impacts from sea level rise and flooding with over 100 people in 40 homes in the at-risk area.
